Salon Shortlist lists hairdressers, barbers, nail salons, beauty salons and massage places so people can choose one. For each business we show its name, address, location, website, telephone number, services, opening hours and facts such as online booking, prices and parking. This comes from public sources only: the business's own website, OpenStreetMap, Overture Maps Foundation and the public register of companies (Companies House), which we use to tell whether a business is a registered company. Some businesses are run by one person under their own name, so a listing can contain a person's name, and the business address and telephone number of a sole trader can be personal data. We use this information on the basis of legitimate interests: our interest is to help people find and compare salons, and we only use information the business has made public itself or that is in a public register. We have weighed this against your rights and you can object at any time (see Your rights). We do not use reviews, photos or personal social media profiles. We show a telephone number only if the business publishes it on its own website, or if it is a registered company's landline.
How long we keep it: a listing stays for as long as the business operates and the information is public; we update it when the business's website changes. If you ask us to remove a listing, we delete it and keep only your email address, so we do not write to you again. Email addresses of places that have no listing on this site are not kept. To read public web pages and check them, we use OpenAI as a service provider that handles the text only on our instructions; it may process data outside the UK, under standard contractual protections.
If you run a listed business you can ask us to correct your details, to see what we hold about you, or to remove your listing. Use the "Correct or remove this listing" button on your salon's page or email contact@salonshortlist.com. We act on requests without asking you to create an account.
We may send one notice email to an email address that is published on a salon's own website or in open map data (Overture Maps), telling the business it is listed and how to update, correct or remove its listing. We keep a log of the notices we send (the date and the text) for 3 years, as proof that we told you. If you ask us not to write to you again, we keep only your email address, so that we never write to you again. Salons that use the update link can add a description, phone number, booking link, opening hours, services and one photo. What you add appears on the public page for your salon. Photos are checked by us before they appear. Update links stop working after 30 days; you can ask for a new one on the update page. If you tick the box on the update page, we will also send you occasional news from Salon Shortlist and from Appointica, salon software. The first email after you tick the box is a short welcome letter, sent once. We record when you tick or untick it, and you can unsubscribe at any time. We do not give your email address to anyone for advertising. To run this we use two service providers who handle data only on our instructions: Supabase (database, hosted in the EU) and Brevo (sending email). You can ask us to remove your listing or your data at any time.
We do not ask you to sign up, and the site does not set cookies or use advertising tools. We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not follow you from site to site; it records which page was viewed, the country and the type of device. Our host, Vercel, keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser and the page requested) for a short time to run the site securely. To spot automated copying of our salon data we also count, and delete after 14 days, how many searches each network makes per hour; we store only the first part of the address (for example 203.0.113.0, never the full address), no names and no page content. Some parts of a page load content from other services, which then see your IP address:
• Postcode search: when you type a postcode on the home page, it is sent to postcodes.io to find its location. We do not store it.
• "Use my location": your browser asks for permission first; the location is used in your browser only to pick the nearest city and is not sent to us.
• Google: the "Location and reviews" link on a salon page opens Google Maps in a new tab. Google's own privacy policy applies to that.
Under UK data protection law you can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of information about you, and you can object to how we use it. Email contact@salonshortlist.com. If you are not happy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Data comes from public salon websites and open map data: © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL) and Overture Maps Foundation. "No data" means the salon's site does not say, not that the answer is no. Salons are sorted by profile completeness (how much we could verify), not by quality. No salon pays to be listed.
